Ten Easy Ways to Improve Credit Scores Even in This Economy

If your credit is trashed already then don't fret, you can improve credit over time if you make a few immediate and lasting changes. Think to yourself that once you hit rock bottom the only way to go is up! Do not get caught in the trap of thinking, they already called a collection agency so I'm just not going to pay. You can get out of this mess even then if you start fresh and elect to from now on pay your bills. Remember the second you start doing things right you are starting your next credit record, and allowing the bad one to slowly expire. Every ten years you get a fresh start (not on everything) but that 10 years doesn't count until you stop making it worse and it is relative to each creditor!

You need to resolve to do everything right from this day forward, regardless of how desolate it looks with any given company. This means pay your bills on time from here out. Make some kind of payment to the creditors if they are after you, any payment is better than no payment at all. Write a check or money order so you have proof of this payment. Any gesture looks good on your part vs. no gesture at all! Think of it like points... you may be far into the red (negative points) but each point takes you up a notch until one day your in the black!

No matter what you do, do not write a check if you don't have the funds in your account. Keep excellant books, and allow yourself a buffer for emergencies. If you are going to be late on a bill and it cannot be helped always call the electric company, phone company, cell phone company, credit card company etc. They will most likely give you an extension and they will not count this against you because they will show you as paying on time so long as you make that due date. They are willing to work with you rather than you get overwhelmed and can't pay them at all.

Just about ever company out there will do this and it's always worth a shot. If you call one and they won't do this, then try all of the creditors you owe. If you have to shift your payments around to the companies that won't work with you, and get extensions with those that will. This will save you from making any more bad credit, and if your credit is good this will save you from late payments.

Start building your credit again. You don't have to go further into debt to do this, just find ways to get ANYTHING on your record that you pay on time. Even if you get a bank prepaid debit card attached to your checking account (secured credit card). Shift a hundred dollars from savings into this secured account. You can make interest on it in savings but you just can't touch it until you pay the card off. This starts to build your credit and realistically doesn't cost a thing!

If you can get a cosigner, then try to get a small loan, just enough to float all of your bills for about 5 months or how ever long you can. Use this money strictly to pay your bills but do so through a secure card discussed above. This is a double credit generating concept!

Monitor your credit report and hire one of those companies to fix your credit on your behalf. Many things on your credit record can be removed such as inquiries, things paid off and so forth. Sometimes these credit agencies can even get a long past debt removed because the company didn't keep records past 3 years! These usually cost about 20.00 a month for a low cost one, well worth the money.

If ever denied credit the credit company in the last tip will remove these inquiries right away, but if you don't use one of these be sure to write in and get that inquiry removed from your credit record right away. There are many sites online that will show you step by step how to do this and even have sample letters you can just personalize and print out, and mail to the three credit companies!

If you move a lot find a solid address to use for everything. Find a friend you trust and see if you can get your mail there and use their address when doing anything. A static address looks good but frequently changing addresses is a red flag and lowers your FICA score!

Always keep your faith up. It will take time but you will get your credit back to 720!!

Steps To Improve Credit

Having a bad credit history can be a real nightmare and major source of headaches. With a bad credit history you are pretty much financially disabled from everything except transactions that can be covered with cash. Finding an apartment to rent, trying to buy car, putting a down payment on a house, or applying for a credit card or a loan from a bank can all be activities you are basically barred from with a bad credit history. Banks, businesses and landlords can see a bad credit history a mile away and will avoid you like the plague. And it seems like all the steps that are supposed to build credit require good credit in the first place. How can you break out of this credit catch-22 once you get stuck in it?

A good starting place to improve credit, if you have a particularly bad credit history, is to contact a credit counseling service. These services will help you to identify why it is you have a bad credit rating, and will help you figure out some steps you can take to repair your bad credit history. A lot of people struggle with credit at one point or other in their lives, and the use of these counseling services is a great way to get back on track.

Most counseling services will tell you to improve credit, you should start by clearing up any past debts or forgotten bills. Missed payments have a tendency to work themselves into ugly marks on your credit rating, and make for a bad credit history. It is not in their nature for businesses to forget that you didn’t pay them what you owed, and they will almost always eventually contact a collection agency. When a collection agency decides that you aren’t going to pay, they’ll do everything in their power to give you a bad credit history.

These collection agencies are supposed to contact you about your debts first, but if you’ve moved or changed you phone number and they don’t succeed, they won’t be shy about ruining your credit without your permission. If you have a bad credit history, you might have been an unknowing target of one of these agencies.

Whatever the reason, to improve credit, you should start by settling old debts or forgotten bills. Additionally, you want to take steps to show that you can make payments responsibly. Use your credit cards often and pay the minimum payments on your bills immediately. If you don’t have a credit card, get a secured card and likewise make your minimum payments promptly. Credit counseling services can help you find additional ways to fix your bad credit history as well.
